This edition of Thinking, Chronically marks a meaningful milestone and accomplishes 3 important goals:
Clarifies the mission of this newsletter.
Opens the door for paid subscriptions — for those ready to invest not just in me, but in the longevity and impact of this work.
Introduces a new segment exclusive for paid subscribers.
1. Clarifying the Mission of Thinking, Chronically
This is what I want for us; the deep desire of my work here as a writer, and as a creator on Instagram:
I want a world where individuals managing chronic illness have their emotional needs fully seen, honored, and supported.
And I believe that world starts by coming together in community.
Let’s create a world where we are able to grieve, and accept, and love, and be joyful, and find meaning, no matter the state of our physical bodies or mental capacities.
I see that world as entirely possible. And the more of us who have tools to support our emotional well-being, the closer it becomes.
This is my heartfelt mission for “Thinking, Chronically.”
If this speaks to you, join in, let’s build this world together.
2. Opening the Door for Paid Subscriptions
For the foreseeable future, all articles, essays, poems, and reflection prompts will remain free, ensuring accessibility.
If you believe in the mission I’ve shared above — and want to be part of bringing it to life — consider becoming a paid subscriber.
Consider becoming a paid subscriber if I have made you think differently. If I have made you feel understood or less alone. If my vulnerability has led to your own “ahah moment” or a deeper vulnerability with yourself.
And if today isn’t the right time for you to support this work financially, you can always upgrade your subscription in the future. I’m deeply grateful to all 900+ of you who are here <3
3. Introducing a New Segment Exclusive for Paid Subscribers
I’m thrilled to offer a new segment for our community: Ask Dr. Talia.
Ask Dr. Talia gives paid subscribers the opportunity to submit questions about managing the emotional impact of chronic illness. Questions about experiences that your friends, family, and even therapist may not understand. Questions that, if answered, could help you live with more acceptance, joy, and clarity, and free up some brain space.
Not everyone has the opportunity to work with me 1:1, and I’m excited to provide another avenue for individuals living with chronic illness to receive expert support for their emotional well-being, from someone who knows what it’s like to live with chronic illness every day.
Each edition will feature a personalized response to one reader-submitted question and include:
My personal perspective on the issue
A summary of one relevant scientific resource or article
A helpful practice or exercise
A reflection prompt for deeper introspection
I know this will be valuable not only for the person who asked the question, but for others in our community. While our experiences may differ, many of us share similar emotional challenges.
Be one of the first people to submit a question!
I’ll leave you with a pledge of support from reader Aarya:

I believe that the more individuals who are emotionally supported on their paths with chronic illness, the more we can ease the collective pain and amplify the strengths of this community.
Now is the time to join in on this journey of collective healing. Are you on board?
Sending lots of love for joy and healing always <3,
Dr. Talia
