I love this post. So many of my hobbies and interests have had to change because I can't do certain things anymore (1.5 years into Long COVID so still new to chronic illness). It's been a struggle to figure out "who am I if I can't read for fun? Crochet? Got to musicals? Etc". I've done some values work (which haven't changed) but I love this list of "here's things I'm interested in". For me, it's cricket, world religions, world history, planners and other paper crafts, to name a few. Thank you again for continuing to share your life, illness and not.
Many of mine had to change too, I know how difficult that is. But we adapt as have to! Looks like you’ve continued to delve into your interests. Good thing is there is a never ending supply of information about world religions and history hehe
A beautiful and necessary post. You capture that feeling of being submerged by illness perfectly, and the gentle nudge to find meaning is very much needed. Thank you. 💓
Thank you so much for writing this. I've been grappling with this problem myself. I am so frustrated about having to prioritize things that suck my spoons and joy, like doctor visits or multiple naps a day. Alongside spoons, I think of Mana, which is a less depressing way of saying 'my will to live'. I try to make space for those mana-rich activities, like giving scifi talks. It makes a world of difference 🖖🏻
This was so good to read. I live with chronic illness. I kept wanting to say things about what you were saying as I was reading, I’ve forgotten them now of course. I loved the list you made. Totally get the looking at a tree and just knowing it’s living a fulfilling life. And the accent of the woman in White Lotus, perfect. Thank you for introducing me to Nick Drake’s mum also. And sorry you mistakenly got rid of those subscribers.

It is incredibly frustrating. I love that you are making space for mana-rich activities. Thanks for sharing that with me 💗
